Using a Social Share Plugin for WordPress? Here Is a Twitter Tip.

where-is-your-twitter-handle

Whether you use a social share plugin on your WordPress blog, of course, is totally up to you. I'm not here to debate the pros and cons.

Instead I am here to give you one tip for Twitter

I've shared this on my blog sometime back, and feel it's worth sharing again.

When people go to share your post by clicking on the Twitter icon, something like this typically shows up.

What I want you to take note is my twitter handle that is highlighted at the end. This is exactly what I see missing on so many blogs when I share their posts.

Why Is That Twitter Handle Important?

That is a good question, and there are two answers.

  • It identifies who the original post came from.
  • It gives anyone the opportunity to click on your twitter handle, see who you are and possibly follow you.
  • Honestly, I think those are two good reasons.

    When It Doesn't Matter

If you are not on Twitter, you can quit reading this now.

    How To Add Your Handle

Unfortunately, I cannot show you how to do this with every social share plugin, nor can I say they all have this option. But if your shared tweets aren't including your Twitter handle, you might dig into the plugin settings a bit. But for an example, here is where you will find that setting with these four social share plugins.

    Mashshare

    Networks > Twitter Username

    mashshare plugin twitter handle setting

    Social Warfare

    Site Identity > Twitter Username

    Genesis Simple Share

    Box Reordering Settings

    Jetpack Sharing Module

Settings > Sharing > Twitter Site Tag

    jetpack twitter site tag

So there you have it. Get this set up with your social share plugin so I won't have to email you next time I share a post and don't find your Twitter handle. (Although a few times I have added it myself to help the blogger, but not often)

And if you sharing plugin doesn't have a setting for this, boohoo. Maybe it's time to change.
