How Bloggers Can Use Twitter Get Traffic, Build an Email List & Grow Their Blog
Are you trying to harness the potential of Twitter for your blog?
Twitter is an excellent platform for so many reasons.
It's the perfect amplifier for blog content and helps you connect with other like-minded users.
Blogging has allowed me to find my voice and Twitter helped me to spread that voice.
With Twitter, I've managed to build a successful blog and a personal brand for myself. To date, I've been featured in various large publications such as Forbes and Entrepreneur because of these two platforms.
Despite being a simple platform to use, Twitter can also be one of the most confusing for many. It's a complicated platform for many to master.
I'll show you how you can use Twitter to get more traffic and subscribers.
I'm going to break this into two parts.
Ready? Let's begin.
Part 1: Master the Foundation of Twitter 1. Get the basics rightI'll keep this short and sweet. Make sure your photo, bio, Twitter cover and everything else looks perfect. To understand the basics better, I recommend you take Social Quant's 14 Days Free Twitter Marketing that Sells Challenge. It's one of the best way to master Twitter in under 14 days.
2. Master the 3P'sBefore you read and start the next step, read this. You need to master the 3P's of marketing on any social media platform.
The 3Ps are:
Now that you know the 3 Ps, you need to figure out a ratio when tweeting these tweets. Using this will allow you to add more personality to your Twitter profile.
3. Get more Twitter followers.A big chunk of having a strong foundation should be about building followers. Before you try to do anything else, spend time to get new followers that are interested in what you have to say. These important followers form your foundation as they tend to be supportive and loyal.
Where do you find followers? You should follow first.
There are many types of users on Twitter from corporate leaders to sharers and chatters.
For me, I like to follow the sharers and chatters. They spend time going through tweets and sharing it with their followers. They are also one of the most active people on Twitter. I recommend you read my blog post to get a better idea on how you can find them.
Next, it's all about building that mutual relationship. If you get 50 new followers, spend time talking to 10 of them (more if you have the time). Have a meaningful relationship with them.
To do this you can:
These simple interactions are still valued by your followers. Until today, I still get comments from people telling me how refreshing it is to get a reply on Twitter.
4. Join Twitter ChatTwitter chats are a great avenue for you to be involved in a specific area of interest and to find relevant people to follow. There are so many types of Twitter chats for various niches ranging from
These chats are filled with the most relevant and most importantly active people on Twitter.
After joining over 100 Twitter chats (and hosting many), I found that these are the most passionate people on Twitter. They are active sharers and chatters. These are great people you want to mix with.
Not only are they influential, but they are also friendly and willing help others.
When they find your articles useful, they will share it with others during a Twitter chat. This will be incredibly useful when driving traffic to your blog and getting leads.
When participating in Twitter chats, you can also share relevant blog posts for others to learn from.
Part II: Twitter TacticsOnce you have a foundation of followers, it's time for you to take advantage of Twitter to get more traffic. Time to get a little tactical. Now comes the interesting part.
1. Pin a TweetPinned tweets are an excellent way to drive traffic to your blog posts. Pinning a tweet is simple and will probably take a few seconds. Just click the "More" link on any of your tweets.
and select "Pin to your profile page.
Pinning a tweet keeps that tweet at the top of your feed. What this means is that anyone who views your profile will be able to see that particular tweet first.
I'm sure you're wondering, do people even bother seeing your profile? YES! In the last month alone, nearly 10,000 people viewed my Twitter profile. You'll be missing out on so much potential if you're not pinning your tweet.
Buffer's Kevan Lee ran tests with pinned tweets. Lee found that pinned tweets generated over five to ten times the amount of clicks.
My recommendation is to pin tweets that include images. They attract more attention and clicks.
2. Hijack attentionHere's a secret that has worked well for me. Tagging people in tweets. Tagging is not the same as mentioning someone in tweets.
Mentions work when you're just mentioning one or two people. Tagging is different; it allows you to tag up to 10 people in your tweet through photos. When you tag someone, they will automatically see that tweet in your their mention stream.
Here's what it looks like:
As I was tagged, this tweet appeared in my mention timeline when I looked at people mentioning me.
Take advantage of this when you've mentioned someone in your blog post. When that happens, just upload an image on Twitter link it up to that blog post. tag them like this.
Then, tag them like this.
You've probably heard this a thousand times. Let me keep it simple and assure you that it works. Visuals tend to do better on platforms because they attract more attention.
Many tests have been done and they all share similar results. Visuals get more clicks.
4. Retweet yourself Did you know you can retweet yourself on Twitter? Retweeting yourself will allow you to push older tweets to appear on your follower's timeline again.
I found this is extremely useful to get that extra traffic.
5. Automate the sharing of old postsAlong the same line as the previous tactic, you need to spread not only new blog posts but also share old or evergreen blog posts if you want to generate Twitter traffic consistently.
For this purpose, I recommend you to pick a social media scheduler of your choice and start scheduling your evergreen tweets.
If you don't know which platform you should be using. I recommend you try one of my recommendations below:
7. Click to tweetFor new bloggers, pay attention. Add a plugin called "click to tweet". I found that people were sharing my blog posts more after I've added this plugin. Some even tweeted my posts multiple times. Here's a sample of someone using the click to tweet button.
Click to tweet works because it allows you to tweet a particular quote, sentence, facts or more.
This tactic is a no-brainer; you need to have social media share buttons on your blog.
Make it easy for people to share. Find out which platform they use the most and add it there for them to share.
9. Use Sumome.Sumome is a great platform that I love. For me, it's the best WordPress tool to get more leads. They have so many tools, I like to call them the swiss army knife of WordPress.
Sumome allows you to easily create pop up's that can help convert traffic to leads. Why waste your traffic when you can convert them to subscribers?
10. Join TriberrHere's another platform every blogger needs to pay attention. Triberr is a social network for bloggers. The way Triberr works is you and other bloggers come together in a group aka a tribe and you share each others blog post on Twitter.
Whenever one blogger writes a post, Triberr will update it on the platform where other members can read, comment and share it with their social networks. You can also pay $5 to get your blog post pinned where all of your group members will see.
11. Use QuuuQuuu is a hand-curated content suggestion platform that connects to your Buffer queue, allowing you to grow a relevant social media following across your entire. You can also pay to get your content promoted to other quuu users to share on their Twitter account.
Summing up:To succeed as a blogger using Twitter takes time. You won't become a traffic power user on Twitter overnight.
To kickstart your journey, I recommend you to take advantage of Social Quant's TMST Challenge. It's the best way to learn how to get more followers and turn them into business dollars in 14 days. It's filled with so much information. The best part is, you get to join and engage with other users who are going through the challenge in a Facebook group.
It will require you to dedicate time and effort to your community.
What are you waiting for? See you on Twitter!
