    Divi Theme Review – is it the best Multipurpose WordPress Theme?

    There are thousands of WordPress themes out there. But only a few of these remained useful over the years. Divi theme from Elegant Themes is one of these few themes.

    The latest update of Divi comes with unlimited customization options and a brand-new frontend editor. You can use this theme to create any kind of website you want. In today's post, I am going to take an in-depth look into the theme and discuss all the useful features.

    Without further ado, let's begin!

    All New Frontend Builder

    Divi 3 introduced a brand new frontend builder. This enables you to create your own layouts and check out the actual preview at the same time. Unlike the other page builder solutions, you can do things like click on any text field and edit the text, drag and drop elements to adjust the width, height etc. Thanks to the AJAX-powered interface, the changes will take place immediately.

    Divi Visual Editor

    Adding new content couldn't be easier. Just hover over the desired location and click the '+' icon. You can choose to create your own column-based layout or pick a layout from the library. For each column, you can choose any of the 40+ content elements provided by Divi theme.

    Besides the usual settings options, each content element is provided with its own design options. You can apply custom text styles, margin, padding, border, background etc. for each element. It is also possible to apply custom CSS.

    Each content element could be dragged and dropped to any location inside the layout. It is also possible to delete or make duplicates of the content element.

    Divi Element Styling

    Revision history is another unique feature of the Divi visual builder. This feature shows a list of your recent changes. You can revert to any of these changes just by clicking on them. There are separate undo and redo buttons as well.

    The Divi Page Builder

    If you are used to creating custom layouts by using a page builder, Divi has got you covered as well. The Divi builder includes most features of the visual builder. You can create standard, full width, specialty sections, or choose a layout from the library.

    For each section, it is possible to choose a column-based layout. And for each column, you can choose any content element. Just like the visual builder, you can apply custom styling to the elements, drag and drop, delete, or make duplicates of them.

    When working with the page builder, you can choose the sidebar position, navigation style etc. for the post or page.

    Diverse Theme Options

    Divi comes with a diverse range of customization options. You will find these in the Divi > Theme Options page.

    As you can see, the page is divided into several sections. In the General section, you will find options to upload the logo, favicon, enable fixed navigation, smooth scrolling, back to bottom, show social media profiles, Mailchimp and Aweber integration options.

    In the Navigation section, you can choose which page(s) should be excluded from the menu, enable dropdown menu, exclude categories, hide empty categories etc.

    The Layout section allows you to enable or disable comment on the pages. For the singe posts, you can choose to display the author, date, categories, comments etc.

    There is a dedicated section for SEO. This section enables you to allow custom title, meta description, meta keywords, canonical URL, separator character etc.

    The integration section enables you to add code to the head, body of your website, or at the top or bottom of your posts. There is also a section for managing the ads.

    Unlimited Customization Options

    Along with usual options like site title, menu, widget, and color schemes, Divi theme customizer features lots of other customization options. For instance, you can choose the layout and define the website width, section, and row height, set the theme accent color.

    The dedicated typography options enable you to choose different fonts for the heading and body text. As Divi comes with all the popular fonts, you can easily choose your favorite one. It is also possible to choose the color, size, and spacing for the header, text, and links.

    Divi supports several header styles. You can choose the suitable style from the 'Header Format' section. You can choose to display the social icons, search icon, phone number, and email address in the header. Regarding the menus, it is possible to choose the menu height, font family, text color, active link color, link background color, dropdown menu animation etc.

    Divi also allows you to choose the footer layout. The footer widgets could be customized by defining the header text and link styles. You can personalize the footer menu display options too.

    Divi Button Styling Options

    Dedicated button styling options is an interesting feature of Divi. This helps you to choose the default text size, color, background color, border styles, font family, icon styles etc. for the buttons. It is also possible to choose the text, background, and border colors for button hovers.

    Divi features a fully responsive design. However, you can take this into a whole new level by defining the section, row height, text size, and menu styles for mobile and tablet devices.

    Other Features of Divi

    Along with the awesome features mentioned above, Divi also includes a few other notable features. First of all, there are 20+ readymade layouts and demos available for you. You can choose any of these and get your website started within a few minutes.

    What's more, Elegant Themes conducted a 100-day Divi Resources event which featured hundreds of examples of using Divi in different ways. You can download and use any of these layouts for free.

    With full RTL support, Divi can be used to create websites in other languages too. As the theme is already translated in 32 different languages, chances are your language is already covered by Divi.

    Exploiting Digital Currents With WordPress

    As an agency, to be successful in digital marketing you must face the challenges of today and the future. These problems are not only worth solving now, but worth investing in solving because they will still be problems in the future.

    In his speech at Agency Summit, WP Engine's CTO and founder Jason Cohen discussed how to take current problems in the digital landscape and turn them into a differentiating advantage.

    Let's take a look at some of those obstacles we see today, including how they are addressed and solved by WordPress.

    Today's Digital White Waters

    There's a technical term in whitewater rafting called a "boof". When rafting, whitewater indicates an obstacle that can be a challenge to pass through. According to Cohen, "the human tendency when you see water rolling around is to go around it. But when you do that in a kayak, you turn over, meaning leaning away from the problem actually is the problem."

    "So the correct technique is to go right at the white water to fly over the obstacle and use it as an advantage to go fast," Cohen explained.

    This is a great metaphor for what it means to take on these challenges in digital marketing. Rather than work around the problem, turn the problem into a differentiating advantage.

    According to Cohen, here are some of the "boofs" (or obstacles) digital marketing faces today that can be overcome…

    "One thing that's obvious to me is there's an explosion in types of marketing tools from chat to geo-targeting to lead generation forms and so on. It's clear that in the future there will be more of these types of things, not fewer," said Cohen.

    Within each marketing category, it's getting more specialized and complicated. So this implies that if there's only going to be more types of 'things', and it's very hard to do those things. The general conclusion is platforms are going to start offering to do everything for you… 'we'll do all in one' so to say.

    However, according to Cohen, being able to do everything on one platform isn't the future of digital marketing. Ask yourself "how do I take it to the next step from basic integration to doing something custom with that integration?" For instance, taking these marketing IT tools and turning them into something unique.

    Personalization

    Personalization is a trend that's gaining rapid momentum. But how do you persuade your clients of its importance? According to Cohen, sometimes your clients aren't convinced to invest in something that's highly personalized. It's important to convey to them that conversions will go up when you're specific and personalize content based on information you can gather about your customers (say from AdTech).

    Therefore, in terms of technology, this means your website has to collect and manage data. To be personalized, there has to be a lot of data. You must be able to access the data in real-time too.

    Brands As Publishers

    In the 90s brands were told to get on the internet. "It's the future," they were told without really any other explanation. You weren't able to say, "you need to get online because Amazon is going to happen…or Google's going to happen..or social media is going to happen." We didn't know any of these things, but we knew this was the future, Cohen explained.

    Today, the equivalent to getting online is giving your brand publishing agility. "Content should be the centerpiece of marketing," said Cohen. He added, "people on Facebook share content, not home pages."

    The obstacle here is being good at publishing…many brands don't specialize in this area, so it's a challenge to go above and beyond to make your brand stand out from a publishing perspective.

    "Those who don't publish will not only stand still, but they'll fall behind," said Cohen.

    Intrapreneurship

    When you think like an entrepreneur in the context of a bigger company, that's called intrapreneurship. There is so much unknown and it's hard to plan for the unknown or how things will unfold. "One of the ways you deal with this uncertainty is to act or think more like a startup that also doesn't know anything about their customers, their products, or their market," said Cohen.

    He further explained that what you do is you run experiments. You acknowledge that you aren't sure how to use certain technology and that you need a technology platform that is flexible and lets people move quickly when they want to.

    Secondly, you need an agency that's flexible and creative because it doesn't matter what the technology is doing, it's the campaigns and creative inside there that actually counts.

    Thirdly, you need to be able to run tests quickly and cheaply so you can try things and learn and figure out what's working.

    "This notion of intrapreneurship is more than just nice, it's mandatory when you're navigating a world where it's not exactly clear what the right answer is," said Cohen.

    To Boof or Not to Boof?

    What are the answers to some of these obstacles? Let's take a look…

    Technology Can't Replace Human Creativity

    "It doesn't matter what the technology is if the creative isn't there," Cohen explained. He added, "at the same time, if you have the best ideas in the world, but it costs 50 thousand dollars and two months for a test campaign, that also won't work."

    The relationship between technology and creativity is a marriage — you have to have both the technology platform to support these activities, along with non-A.I. humans to drive the creative strategies.

    What's Needed from Technology to Exploit the Rapids to Your Benefit?

    To attack these sorts of challenges, here's what you need from technology:

    Scale

    A solution that already runs at scale, meaning globally. Your content should be able to be reached from all over the world and cater to different languages, etc. But also, in a technology sense, say something goes viral and you get tens of millions of hits in a day; your site should be able to handle this volume of traffic without crashing.

    Agility

    Agile = fast. You have to be fast to be entrepreneurial at all of these things.

    Right Cost

    Not everything is cheap, obviously. Yet, simple things ought to be easy and they should be cheap. Complex things are not cheap, yet they are possible.

    Integration

    As data sources continue to expand, being able to easily and quickly connect and access all that data is essential.

    Why WordPress?

    Here's how WordPress addresses these challenges:

    Size

    WordPress powers more than a quarter of the web and 60 percent of the CMS market share. It also powers 27 percent of the top 10K websites.

    Agility

    Here's an example: When Google Glass came out, by the next day there were three free WordPress plugins that you could use that would take your content and make it available in Glass. This means that you and your clients are in control of the when and how to go and apply this new technology.

    "It's the control and power to go at the rate that's appropriate for you and your clients…that's agility," said Cohen.

    On the other hand, a closed platform, like Adobe, took four months to declare when they'd have support for Google Glass..the answer…nine more months and then they didn't even end up supporting it.

    Right Cost

    The WordPress software is free and so are many plugins and themes. "Sometimes it's not about making the budget smaller, but rather making the value bigger," said Cohen.

    Ask yourself 'what are you spending the money on?' Are you spending it on software licensing fees? This doesn't make a project more successful. Or are you spending it on making a better project or a more effective campaign which generates more value?

    Integration

    WordPress is open source and has 30,000-plus people working as freelancers whose primary income comes from WordPress. The fact that all this exists makes it easy to make integration points. Since it's open, you can take whatever somebody else did and customize it to the integration you want, making it that much easier.

    The Catch…

    "WordPress is free like a puppy dog is free," explained Cohen. But of course, it's not actually free. Just like you have to give a puppy shots and keep it fed, WordPress comes with maintenance tasks too.

    "This is the part where WP Engine comes in. We take an open source project and we make it an enterprise-grade platform. All of the challenges of open source goes to all of the things we want to solve," said Cohen.

    He then explained the inspiration behind WP Engine. "I wrote a blog post on a dedicated WordPress server. When it got popular, the server would crash," said Cohen. This led to the need for a managed WordPress solution, and so WP Engine was founded.

    "Just because you have a pile of zipped up PHP code doesn't mean it scales, doesn't mean it's secure, doesn't mean it has high uptime or doesn't mean it will perform well under a lot of traffic. There are all of these pieces required to actually make a website work," said Cohen.

    According to Cohen, there are three vital pieces to taking an open source project and making it an enterprise-grade platform. This includes high performance, security, and service.

    With WP Engine, high-performance is just one result noted. The infrastructure was built to address scalability among other performance factors.

    Security is also another important piece to an enterprise-grade website. "YTD we've blocked 1.6 billion attacks on our platform," said Cohen. As technology evolves, security attacks will not be something that'll lessen in the future, they'll only get worse. That's why it's important to invest in an enterprise-grade solution that hardens your WordPress site against potential threats.

    In addition, another component to being enterprise-grade is having access to great service. "We have 400 people in our organization and about half of them work in customer experience," said Cohen. He added, "Because investment in humans beings the right way is how you have great service."

    but when you do a google search for my blog the first one that comes up is the wordpress one and it says this blog is no longer active. So people think I have stopped doing my blog. My actual blog page is number 3 on the google search- HELP!

    I think you are asking: How do I set up a custom menu?

    This is a one or the other situation. You have two choices on any blog(1) All posts on the front page.(2) Or a static front page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ and all posts on a different page.

    By default the front page of a blog displays all published posts in reverse chronological order with the most recently published post on top. When we publish a post on WordPress software the software automatically creates the same entry in the Archives, and on the dynamic (automatically updating) Categories and Tags pages in accord with the Categories and Tags we assign to that post.

    So when we create custom menu and add the dynamic (automatically updating) category pages to that custom menu we create the appearance (not the reality) of posting to more than one page.

    You need to be aware that:

    2.     How To Make Money Selling WordPress Products & Services

    It's been a while, but I'm finally back with part 2 of our making money with WordPress series. Previously we coved how to make money with your WordPress blog, but that's not the only way you can leverage WordPress to build a successful business.

    Many people (WPExplorer included) are making a living by selling products and services for WordPress. Today we'll take a look at what you can create to help other WordPress users, and specific pros and cons to consider before you start selling.

    Make Money With WordPress Products

    If you're using WordPress then you're most definitely also using (or have used) at least a few third party products to go along with your core installation. In my experience there are three main products many  WordPress users are willing to pay a premium for.

    1. & 2. Premium WordPress Themes & Plugins

    One of the biggest markets related to WordPress is the theme & plugin market. There are countless independent premium theme stores (ThemeBeans, ThemeIsle, Anariel Design, etc) in addition to the mega theme marketplaces like Themeforest or Templatemonster that host countless products from many different developers.

    If you're a developer and have confidence in your coding ability then creating premium themes or plugins is a great way to generate income. The only investment required is your time! What started as a small theme membership site has grown into a multimillion dollar business all built in the premise of offering premium WordPress themes and plugins at an affordable price. Other notable success stories include OptinMonster, Themify, DesignModo, Soliloquy and StudioPress among many others.

    The biggest perk to starting your own store is that you are 100% in control of all decisions. You decide your prices. You decide what you're selling. You decide if you want to run promotions.

    At the same time, running your own store can be difficult because you are the one running it. This means you must take extra precautions for customer data security, make sure to follow all local e-commerce laws, and if you are making international sales there are additional laws you must abide by.     The two main challenges of using marketplaces is that they often have strict, lengthy review processes and also take a percentage of sales. In our experience, we've found the review process often times makes items better and the nominal fee is more that worth it to not have to manage our own e-commerce system.

    Sell Your WOrdPress Products Everywhere

    Lastly, you have the option to take advantage of both and sell your items on a non-exclusive basis on marketplaces as well as your own store.

    Brands such as Themefuse, ArrayThemes and Anariel Design have done a great job taking advantage of marketplaces for exposure, as well as their own stores for closer control over sales.

    One caveat with this option is that some marketplaces like Themeforest charge non-exclusive authors a larger sales fee. This means you may have to forfeit a bit more of your income in order to have the flexibility to sell in a variety of places.

    Additionally, the more places your sell your items the more places you'll have to provide item support. You'll either need to create a central support location (such as a customer forum, or a ticketing site using a service such as HelpScout or ZenDesk) or take the time to log into multiple author accounts to provide customers with adequate item support.

    Blogger for the long term?

    Hi all,So, I have a blog on Blogger that consists of articles with 1 image per article and a domain is pointing to it now, and I would like to increase the income from it to a little more than a few dollars a month and I was just wondering what anyone here thinks of the platform to be used for the long term?.

    I don't swear or anything and all articles are family friendly, and I make daily backups using the Export tool, so technically I could just import the XML file into a new Wordpress site and restore everything that way right?.

    I've heard from people saying that they have had their blogs taken down overnight (completely deleted) so that is why I am just a bit worried for the future.

    All these options are fine, so there's no right or wrong answer here. Needless to say, you must define your goals before turning into a serious, respected blogger. Let's look into 9 crucial ways you can get serious about blogging and gradually reach a new level.

    1. Less Fun. More Work.

    Sometimes I think that I've been working hard… and then I read a post by an avid blogger telling the world he had just worked a ten-hour shift. Suddenly my small, five-hour work day feels like a walk in the park by comparison.

    I'm not saying you must live like a slave to stay successful, but let's face it: You do have to work extra hard to see your blog reach a certain point and status.

    So, what can you do to get serious about blogging? Watch three hours of TV instead of your usual five; cut back on video games by 30-45 minutes; wake up a half hour earlier; you don't need to "Like" every social media update made by friends and family.

    You get my point: We often think that we're already giving it our all, but this is a complete lie when you really stop to think about it.

    Once you finally achieve a milestone or two, then you can begin outsourcing or automating certain things in exchange for more time.

    2. Save Some Money

    There was a time when I struggled to afford even the most basic blogging tools and services, not wanting to admit I was blowing too much money on unnecessary expenses.

    Hell, I ran on an incredibly slow server and settled for some horrendous WordPress theme just to avoid purchasing premium/better alternatives.

    Then I did some of the following: Ordered Chinese takeout less frequently, replaced my expensive gym membership with a much cheaper option, I got rid of a useless cable package, among other minor things.

    And guess what? Suddenly I could afford that expensive, but amazing blog theme and then acquired a dedicated server soon after.

    Cut back on all expenses you think you need and get more realistic. This advice is subjective in nature, of course, since only you know what's truly necessary in your life. Nevertheless, consider this a reminder to reassess your options.

    3. Start Investing

    Use every penny and experiment with those premium resources you had always been curious, but reluctant to try. Learn the best ways to use Facebook ads, as well as Google AdWords and even look into advertising space on fellow niche blogs.

    Sure, most of these sources will probably result in a loss at first, but this is part of the game; these setbacks will help you refine the campaign by analyzing what's working and what isn't.     Fast responsive Blog and Blog Theme that work in China.

    Sounds easy but is surprisingly difficult. I need a blog and a blog theme, e.g. WordPress and a theme. Requirements: 1. Must be for a finance related blog 2. Must be FAST, must be also fast in China. Meaning loading no bulls.t from Facebook, google analytics, google fonts etc. since this stuff is blocked there. 3. Must be responsive. Must look good on a cell phone.I have word press with a simple and responsive theme installed. It looks ugly on phones and is slow. Any ideas?I had a look on gohugo.io at leas the page loads very fast and looks good on my phone. But for Hugo I would need another server and not just hosting.

    It's good practice to keep your overall layout as simple as possible, but sometimes we need a bit more flexibility. Consider themes that allow you to switch the number of sidebars, adjust the footer, and fully customize your homepage's post layout.

    I personally use themes from Themify, which come with a built-in "Page Builder" that enables me to make my site look however I please (I mean it, the sky's the limit). Otherwise, consider a plugin like Visual Composer to achieve a similar goal.

    Enable Breadcrumbs

    These refer to the link trail you would see at the top of posts and pages, such as: Home>Blogging Tips>WordPress>

    Here's a nice example from WPBeginner:

    To me, there's nothing more annoying than the inability to skip over several pages when browsing through multiple pages or archive. This is especially important when looking for products, even if you have some basic sorting options already in place.

    Pagination effectively gets rid of "Next Post" and "Previous Post" and replaces these with numbers. Plugins like WP-PageNavi provide a great fix, as well as many premium themes such as the ones provided by the aforementioned Themify.

    Add Related Posts

    I love reading an article and naturally running into a highly related piece on that same page.

    Include a link to related posts (along with their titles) at the bottom of your content and even right in the middle if it makes sense.

    Doing this manually gives you greater control over which post users get to read, but plugins such as YARPP can also improve site navigation through more automated options.

    Interlinking between existing articles creates a chain of related material that helps users stay on your website longer. Do you ever find yourself clicking every link on Wikipedia articles? This is the same awesome feeling you would give your blog readers.

    Use a Logical Structure

    It's common practice to include your website's most important pages and categories first, followed by optional ones last. Your "About" and "Contact" pages, for examples, don't typically go before prominent sections like "Job board" or the main products page.

    Follow a similar pattern with all sidebar items to greatly improve site navigation and overall user experience.

    Use Clear, Obvious Titles

    This one is a tad subjective: You want all categories and pages to clearly tell the visitor what they're about. If your site hosts a job board, for example, don't name it "The Pot of Gold" because not everyone will understand what this is all about (and many won't care to find out).

    On the other hand, being playful with words and phrases may improve your brand and help your site stand out.

    By looking at the details mentioned at the product's landing page, it surely seems to work. But, does it stand on its promises? Let's find it out.

    Why we need a WordPress Media Manager Plugin?

    The default Media Library module packed inside a fresh WordPress install is the simplest approach to what a media manager can look like. As I said earlier, in order to maintain simplicity, it has to stay away from many useful elements.

    For a normal website, which has handful number of media uploads, there is no need for any third-party management tool. One can easily find a file, use the built-in search tool and even perform bulk actions. The feature set ends here!

    While in the case for a heavy website, where hundreds of media files are being uploaded every week, or even every single day, management does become an issue.

    Installation Experience

    Step 1 Install the Plugin.

    The current version of the plugin weighs approx 2MB and it took less than a minute to get installed. The installation drill was usual and there was nothing needed to setup the plugin. 

    The first thing it asks to do is to Import Categories. I proceeded with the same, allowing the plugin to serve at its best!

    As soon as I clicked on the Library option under the Media section, the new (technically, improved) Media Manager loaded. This is the first interaction, and personally, I was in love with this product.

    Step 2 Import categories for better organization.

    Straight out the gates you can wipe your media files into shape; you are also free to reorganize in whichever way you deem best.

    Simplicity at its best!

    Not just because of any technical features, but because of the fact that it added those features right into the default WordPress Media Manager. There is no additional tool to learn, as everything seemed simple and straight.

    Two categories, Download and Uncategorised, were added which can be renamed or deleted. Now, I can easily drag a media file and drop it into the folder.

    In your dashboard navigate to Settings > Media Folder for advanced optimization options.

    A new button was added to Create New folder quickly, and a couple of new filters were added, allowing me to sort or find files based on their names and even sizes. Duplicate files are replaced to save space, which works automatically and it is a much-needed feature.

    As it's a premium plugin, adding these little features won't make it look worthy of the price tag. So, it brings a bunch of add-ons which can be integrated easily, extending the functionalities further.

    Create galleries from folders

    Have you ever visited websites like TMZ, Gawker media, and many more popular big media sites?

    If you have then you would have probably noticed the beautiful gallery slider that big sites like MSN and many others use to keep visitors on their website for longer.  Before creating galleries and having them organized was a time-consuming job however WP media folder makes it super-easy to create galleries based on  folder categories  that you've already created.  the beauty of this is that when you update your Media folders the galleries will also be reflected which saves you time instead of going back and editing all those galleries

    For a better organization WP media folder allows you to sync the folders on your WordPress site to that on your server which is extremely useful in the case of a few bulk uploaded a bunch of Media image or graphics into your own web server or vice versa.

    The update, replace and duplicate is an incredibly powerful feature which allows you to go in and quickly update one of your old images with a new one with a click of a button. This eliminates having a broken link to your media file and comes in very hand if that image as been shared across the internet. For me, I use this feature to enhance some of our featured images which were created in early days for a more professional look without breaking the pictures.

    It works best with WooCommerce, thanks to the add-on and can be used to properly manage the images which are too many in the case of an e-commerce. It can be extended with Google Drive of Dropbox, integrating proper synchronization between the cloud-based storages and the website. It can also understand PDF files and make them downloadable.

    The plugin also works with famous frameworks or drag & drop page builder tools like Visual Composer, Divi, Beaver, Site Origin, Themify and few others. In my case, it was working perfectly with the Genesis.

    What happens if you decide to Uninstall it?

    Finally, I uninstalled the plugin to check if it ruins the earlier structure of files or leaves them in a proper stack (resuming the previous structure). And, I was impressed with the result! The structure was replaced with the old one, leaving everything without any mess or trash.

    The folders which were created were gone, leaving no trace, and the files were again available in the default layout.

    It clarifies the fact that one can easily start using this plugin and if not liked (however, it will be rare), can simply uninstall and get back to the default mode.

    You can get it for just $29 from the official Joomunited website. There are total four plans available for the plugin while the most popular one costing $49. It includes the plugin, all add-ons, and updates and support for one year. To me, the services this plugin offers, and the way it handles the media files in number, the pricing is good. Also, it's a one-time fee and you're allowed to use the product on any number of WordPress websites.
